New Lengths

Of course.  As soon as my collection of maxis (dresses and skirts that go to the floor) are complete, I open my fashion magazines to see that the maxi is out and the midi (dresses, skirts and pants that fall below your knee and above your ankle) are all the rage.  Come on!
I do like the more sophisticated hem line of the midi.  I like that the length shows off a pair of fabulous heals.  I also like that I can now wear all those maxis (because my legs are ridiculously long) that were too short in a new way.  I think I'm liking this midi trend.
Proportions are really important when wearing a midi.  Wear yours with heels or a wedge.  Flats will make your legs appear short and stumpy.  Wear a top that skims your waist.  A top that falls below your waistline is too long and will appear disproportionate.  Keep your accessories simple and not overstated.  Let the midi be the star of the show.  A midi is a bold new length that anyone can pull off.  A simple black midi dress is a perfect blank canvas to dress up or down any way you like.  I got my  dress and accessories from www.dailydazzledeals.com and the sheer top is from H&M.

Little Summer Dresses

It's summer.  It's hot, it's sticky... and I love every second of it.  Around here, we only get to enjoy it for a couple months and then it's quickly over, so let's embrace these hot days (and nights) with little summer dresses.  The best part of a cool summer dress, is that it can easily transform from a casual day look to a sophisticated evening look.  Sandals and a necklace are the perfect accessories for day.  For night, pair your little summer dress with a cropped black leather jacket and some peep-toe black booties.  I got both of these little summer dresses at the Abercrombie & Fitch Outlet for $5 a piece!  Stock up and you'll be cool all summer long.

Transitional Pieces

I hate to do it.  I really do.  Especially because summer is just getting going around here, and it was such a long winter.  BUT, I do want to talk about transitional pieces that you can carry over from summer into fall and even possibly winter.  I purchased the dress (pictured above) with summer and fall in mind.  Instead of a bright floral print, it's more of a dark floral.  It's sheer, so for a summer look I put a black mini dress under with my favorite wedges.  To get more bang for my buck, I'll wear this dress into the fall with a cami, sheer black tights and a pair of booties.  Going into winter, wear leggings underneath with a oversized sweater and knee high boots.  One dress, with endless possibilities.  When shopping for that next piece, try to keep in mind the changing seasons and purchase something you can transition over.  You'll save money, time and you won't have to cry when it's time to change over your closet, that you are putting it away... because your keeping it out for next season!  I got my dress from www.sheinside.com.

Be Festive: Happy 4th of July

I love being an American and the freedom that comes with it.  In Maine, we live for the 4th of July.  It's really the only holiday that's hot enough to beach and barbecue!  So why not go all out?  Why not wear your stars and stripes bikini?  Why not wrap yourself in red, white and blue and show your pride in this great Country?  It's the one day that you can.  Light the sparklers, watch the fireworks, wear your American flag T-shirt and for gosh sakes... be festive!  Happy 4th of July, everyone.
