Statement Necklace

I love this red dress I got from Target last year.  I love it so much that I bought two more in different colors.  I always say, once you find something that fits well and is comfortable, buy it in every color and print you can.  But that's for another blog, another day.  This one is about the necklace, which takes this simple red dress from cute to glamorous.  It's referred to as a "statement necklace" because it does just that.  Makes a statement.  My favorite statement necklace will have pearls, gems or shiny bold metals.  Pair your statement necklace with simple prints and patterns.  Too much going on will look tacky and confusing.  Keep your look simple and let the necklace do it's thing.  I'm constantly getting compliments on the red and gold one above.  The best part of all... I get most of my statement jewelry from Burlington Coat Factory and Forever 21 for under $10!  Try a statement necklace and I promise you'll wear it over and over again.

Thigh High Slit

I really enjoy taking fashion risks.  Sometimes they work... and sometimes they don't.  I can usually gauge whether it's going to work based on how confident I feel walking out the door.  I ordered this dress online with the hopes that the thigh high slit would stay on my thigh and not expose any other parts.  Thank goodness when I slipped the dress on, it stayed right in place (even when a big gust of wind came by).  I used to think a thigh high slit on a long dress is just for the red carpet, but I have been seeing them everywhere in a more casual way.  I let the dress be the star of the look by pairing it with flat sandals and a beaded necklace.  This fashion risk paid off with a night of compliments.  Take a fashion risk this summer.  A dress with a  thigh high slit is really fun and sexy.

Personal Shopping Success

My friend and Client, Jen, called me last week to help her find a smoking hot outfit for her birthday cruise.  Luckily, Jen was pretty focused and was also very open to different ideas and suggestions.  We discussed areas that she wanted to show off and areas she wanted to hide.  As soon as she mentioned she didn't want anything too tight on her belly (by the way, she has toddler twin girls and looks AMAZING), I instantly thought: peplum and skinny jeans.   A peplum is a long ruffle on a top, dress or skirt and is a great way to hide a belly or love handles.  I suggested pairing the peplum top with dark skinny jeans, which is a nice balance to the flowy ruffle.  Jen took a couple dresses and the peplum ensemble into the dressing room.  She came out with the biggest smile and we both knew this (look pictured above) was it.  Jen bought a statement necklace and paired the look with some adorable black heels.  She got everything at Forever21 (except the shoes are hers) for right around $50.00.
I love Personal Shopping and it's just one of the many services I offer as a Fashion Consultant.  I also offer the service where (after a quick evaluation of size and style) I shop and purchase a few outfit options, accessories and bring them to you.  You select any, all or none of the options and whatever you don't want will be returned.  One of the services that I offer, I suggest to most clients, is Closet Organization.  Most people don't even realize how many pieces of clothing they haven't worn in yeeeeeeears!  Once you purge all the pieces you don't wear and evaluate what you need, shopping becomes much easier and even potentially fun.
Have an event and don't know what to wear?  Don't have time to go shopping?  Need some wardrobe updates?  Feeling overwhelmed by your overflowing closet?  Call me.  I love my job!

Fashion Kicks

I grew up playing sports most of my childhood and teenage years.  I usually had at least two or three pair of sneakers in my closet, but the pair I always had on my feet were more for fashion than function.  My kicks, I would call them.  They weren't for running, they weren't for making me jump higher, they were for making my feet (I have huge feet) look as small as possible and making my outfit look fly.  As an adult... not a lot has changed.  I have several pair of sneakers that I wear to walk and ride my bike, but my favorite pair are more for dressing up a seemingly boring outfit.

My absolute favorites right now are my silver wedge sneakers (  I had to do a little research to make sure that these kicks haven't expired their trendy lifespan.  Luckily for me, almost every high-end designer still offers this style of sneaker through the Fall.  If you're not into the flashy silver, try a pair of black or gray wedges.  If you're not into the wedge at all (they're actually the most comfortable and easy to walk in wedge I have ever worn), try a pair of printed Nikes.  I have seen fashion Nikes in everything from hot pink to animal print.

The best way to style this trend is letting the kicks be the star of the outfit.  Wear your pants rolled up a little, or wear them with shorts and a fun t-shirt.  Of course, sneakers are never appropriate for any type of evening function.  I would designate this look to daytime only.  Don't be afraid to invest in a pair of fashion kicks for outside the gym.  They're cute, comfortable and add a sporty and fun element to your look.
